⚡ THE NIGHT JERSEY DIDN’T SLEEP

The city of Orange woke up to shattered glass, twisted metal, and gunfire echoing off brick rowhouses.

What began as a routine traffic stop on the Garden State Parkway exploded into a full-throttle police chase — and ended with a New Jersey State Trooper opening fire on a suspect near Main Street and Scotland Road late Tuesday night.

By dawn, the block looked like a war zone. Headlights still glowing. Shell casings glinting under police floodlights. The ghostly hum of idling cruisers in the cold November air.

🚨 THE CHASE THAT WOULDN’T END

According to early reports, it started near Exit 145 in East Orange around 11:40 p.m. Troopers pulled over a silver Dodge Charger with dark tint — a car that, according to sources, had been flagged earlier in the week in connection with several auto thefts.

Instead of stopping, the driver hit the gas.

Troopers gave chase — roaring through East Orange into downtown Orange, the Charger weaving through red lights, cutting through residential streets. Radio chatter captured by The Garden State Gazette reveals speeds topping 80 miles per hour as sirens wailed through quiet neighborhoods.

The chase ended when the Charger slammed into a parked car near Scotland Road. Moments later, the standoff turned violent.

“You heard the crash, then the pop-pop-pop,” said Terrence Lawson, who lives across from the intersection. “Next thing I know, they’re yelling ‘Hands up!’ and the guy’s on the ground.”

Authorities confirmed one suspect was shot by a trooper and rushed to University Hospital in Newark. He remains in stable condition.

No troopers were hurt.

💥 WITNESSES SAY “IT FELT LIKE A MOVIE”

The block around Main and Scotland was littered with fragments of chaos — a bent street sign, tire marks etched deep into the asphalt, shattered glass spread across the sidewalk.

Dozens of residents spilled from nearby homes as the sirens wailed on. Some recorded the scene, others simply stood in disbelief.

“It felt like a movie — only real,” said 22-year-old Shaniya Brooks. “You never think it’s gonna happen on your street, but this is Orange. Things go left fast out here.”

One witness told GSG that the driver appeared to reach for something before shots were fired. Investigators later recovered a handgun from the vehicle, though officials haven’t said whether it was used or pointed at officers.

The car — its front end crumpled, airbags blown — was towed from the scene just before sunrise.

🕵️ STATE AUTHORITIES TAKE OVER

As per New Jersey law, any police shooting automatically triggers a review by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA).

By early Wednesday morning, OPIA agents were already on scene. Drones hovered overhead as investigators measured bullet trajectories and photographed evidence.

In a brief statement, the office said:

“An investigation is underway into a trooper-involved shooting that occurred in Orange, New Jersey, on the evening of November 11, 2025. One individual sustained injuries and was transported to University Hospital. The investigation remains active.
