Newark Man Charged With Murder After Recording Studio Shootout Left Two Dead, Prosecutors Say
NEWARK, N.J. — A 20-year-old Newark man is facing first-degree murder and weapons charges after prosecutors say a dispute inside a Newark recording studio exploded into gunfire — leaving two men dead and two others wounded.
The shooting happened Wednesday night, Dec. 10, 2025, inside a studio used to record music videos at 790 Clinton Avenue — a location reported as Platinum Sound NJ.
What authorities say happened
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Newark police responded at about 8 p.m. and found four males suffering gunshot wounds. Authorities identified the two men who died as:
- Namir Bynum, 20, of Newark — pronounced dead at the scene
- Osayuwamen Uyamu, 20, of Newark — pronounced dead at University Hospital at 8:41 p.m.
Two other victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and one was treated and released, officials said.
Suspect and charges
Prosecutors identified the defendant as Naim Andrews, 20, of Newark, who is charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses in the death of Namir Bynum, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Surveillance video detail prosecutors highlighted
In a major development, prosecutors said surveillance video shows Andrews and Uyamu attacking Bynum. Officials allege Bynum was shot by Andrews — and that Bynum then fired back in an apparent act of self-defense, fatally striking Uyamu and injuring Andrews. A fourth person was also injured and was treated and released that same evening, prosecutors said. Investigation status and tip line
